Preparation of vanadium trioxide

Vanadium trioxide (V2O3) is a gray-black crystal or powder that is insoluble in water but soluble in nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and hot water. It slowly absorbs oxygen in the air and turns into vanadium pentoxide. Heating in the air violently burns.
It is a strong reducing agent that can be used as a coloring agent in glass and ceramics. It can also be used to prevent ultraviolet rays from passing through the glass. The oxidation of sulfur dioxide to a catalyst for the oxidation of sulfur trioxide and ethanol to acetaldehyde. .Vanadium trioxide is obtained by reducing vanadium pentoxide by hydrogen, carbon or carbon monoxide, or by thermally decomposing vanadium pentoxide at 1750 ° C and calcining ammonium vanadate under air.
The amorphous vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) formed by thermal decomposition of ammonium metavanadate is reduced in a purified hydrogen stream at 600 ° C for 2 h (the melting point of V 2 O 5 is 690 ° C, the temperature cannot exceed this melting point), and then at 900 ° C Continue to restore for 5 ~ 6h. A part of the product was melted with an alkali, dissolved in dilute sulfuric acid, and subjected to redox titration with hydrogen peroxide, and it was found that the obtained product was VO 1.506. When the product was further reduced at 1250 ° C for 4 h, it became V 2 O 3 .
The invention discloses a method for producing vanadium trioxide: a certain particle size of ammonium vanadate or vanadium pentoxide is continuously added to an external heat type container, and industrial gas is introduced into the container. The high temperature zone in the vessel is heated to 500-650 ° C by external heating, and the charge is subjected to a reduction reaction in this temperature zone for 15 to 40 minutes to be decomposed and reduced to vanadium trioxide.
